Welcome to RG Photography
In Praise of Smaller Sensors
What I love about photography is that all aspects, from image capture to finished print, allows many individual choices.
After using a vast array of cameras and lenses, I am now dedicating the equipment portion of this site specifically to small sensor cameras. I believe that technical advances have reached a point where my photographic requirements can be met with cameras like the Olympus E-M5 and Fuji X10.
Workshops and tours will continue to concentrate on photographic essentials, advancing your personal technique and accepting the challenges of new /developing techniques. All workshops and tours contain these components:
- Instruction with examples
- Hands on practice
- Homework assignment
- Evaluation
Workshops are offered in conjunction with McBain Camera or smaller groups with more personal instruction via RG Photography. I do not offer single session, cover everything in one sitting opportunities. Only individuals that are serious about developing their technique, dedicated to expanding their photographic envelope and displaying / sharing their work need apply.
Can a photograph be construed as a work of art?
From it's inception, photography like any new art form,
has had it's share or ridicule. Some consider photography as
a purely mechanical process rather than human sensibility. In
reality photography is both an art and a science.
The advantage of photography over other forms of art is that the
science involved is constantly changing, allowing the
photographer several creative advantages. Photographers have a
variety of ways to capture their vision, a variety of processes
to release the image and a multitude of mediums on which to
present the finished product. Photography is a constantly
changing art form that is welcomed by forward thinking
artists.
However, the mastering of basic artistic skills still form the
basis for most photographic endeavours. These artistic skills
form the foundation on which a photographer can develop their own
style and technique. It is fair to say that all great artistic
presentations, regardless of medium, are combinations of artistic
skill and mastery of the medium in which the artist works.
Become a better photographer:
- Create photographs every day, it helps you to really see the world around you.
- Try monochrome, some of the worlds most inspirational images are black & white.
- Improve you technique by using a fast 50mm lens where you are the zoom component and you must personally relate to your subject.
Photo Quotes
"Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of preception, interpretation and execution."
